Basics about the Domains; What's cloaked behind the scenes

Basics about the Domains; What's cloaked behind the scenes

Firstly, you could notice that you don't see me, you don't see my face, neither you hear any voices from me,

due to the fact that this too can be arranged, but that is a story

for some another time.

The more things which are assumed to be unseen physically through the Internet browsers are servers(hardware = technical equipment i.e. physically seen equipment) on which this Domain Names and www-s are living on i.e. where these reside.

We are differentiating registrar service(which has the function of registering domains) term and a web hosting term(which has the function of providing a webspace). The registrar is a company which provides us with a service of registering a domain name, while a web hosting company provides us with a (web)space on the internet where we put our website onto. We must be careful when determining the differences about hosting, the term hosting is also used fin the domain hosting expression as opposed to web hosting.

Our domain name and our website content don't need to reside on the same server. Of course, both could reside on the same internet server which is the reason why many companies offer whole-in-one packages.

The Domain Name can be bought through one registrar and then transfered temporarily or permanetly to some other registar.

Both registrar and hosting services are hiring services i.e. this companies are just renting their services. You cannot own a domain name in a real sense of the phrase 'owning' it, although you could buy the domain name for the maximum period of allowed time.

It's better to say we are hiring a domain name but virtually it's ours only during this hired period. Typical period for hiring a domain name at various registrars is from 1-10 years, depending on the domain suffix regulations.

Besides registering and web hosting services, of course, there are always additional services which these companies are providing(like protection of your domain, e-mail, redirecting, forwarding, transfering and various of other services). The prices variate from one company to another depending of their marketing politics.

Basics about the Domains; What domain name really is ?

Basics about the Domains; What domain name really is

In Common Sense

A domain name is a virtual place-location where You put your website on.

It's a term that we use for words which we are writing into our internet browser(browsers are programs = software by which we are browsing the internet i.e. browsing the world wide web areas) looking, searching for wanted www pages.

On primer of 'DomaineMaster' page-term, you would be writing www.domainemaster.com into your web browser "empty" fi

eld. It doesn't matter if the "http://" (for Hypertext Transfer Protocol) is written before the domain name or isn't.

You would then have been

transfered to DomaineMaster's virtual site i.e. on website http://www.domainemaster.com which is one of

virtual addresses on www(world wide web).

The whole Internet is actually based on a spider principle, meaning, every website is on this or that

way or somehow netted and interconnected. It's

In Economical sense

We, present and potential entrepreneurs, i presume, adore this part where a domain name is ironically called a cyber-estate, along the fact that really no one could possibly interpret what internet and virtuality really are and how these resides. We surely don't perceive the real influence effects, neither its roles in every day lives.

For a business, the domain name acts as a site for its products and services and the core of its virtual communication address.

In more Technical sense

In a more technical sense a domain name is an Internet address equivalent of its physical address which can be translated by the Domain Name System (DNS) into the numeric addresses (Internet Protocol(IP) numbers e.g. 32.25.2.171) used by the Network(Internet). It is much easier to find and

remember an internet domain name rather than remembering group of four

numbers.

Every domain name contains two or more components separated by periods, called ”dots”. The last part of the address .*** is called TLD for the Top-Level Domain or ccTLD for Country Code Top Level Domain which last part of the address ends with .** (two) letters.

To the left of the dot in the brand name, DomaineMaster is what is called the second-level domain. It is also possible to have sub-domains(typically known as a "domain within a domain")

Subdomains are the individual web addresses built upon a pre-existing domain name (such as username.yourregistrantname.com).

The completely domain name address is actually coming with the prefix http:// included, which is, jointly as http://www.DomaineMaster.com ,called URL(Universal Resource Locator). As mentioned before, writing http:// into a internet browser is unnecessary.

Moreover, there is no difference between small or large letters in domain name vocabulary regarding to the internet browsers.

ccTLDs – Country Code Top Level Domains

ccTLDs Country Code Top Level Domains

A Country Code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) is an Internet top level domain generally used or reserved for a country or a dependent territory. As in previous posts already said all ccTLDs have two lettered extensions.

Creation and the delegation of ccTLDs is performed by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), and with certain exceptions noted below corresponds to the ISO 3166-1 alpha-two country codes(cc) maintained by the United Nations.

There are 244, of which 195 are active, country-specific domain extensions known as country code top level domains (ccTLDs) such as on example .ae for United Arab Emirates, .aw for Aruba, .ca for Canada, .fr for France, .th for Thailand, .tv for Tuvalu, .tz for Tanzania, .nt for Neutral Zone...and so on and on...there are many changes in the ccTLD list about i will write on some other occasion.

Total registrations in ccTLDs increased from one million in 1998 to sum over 30 million in 2004. This increase in the popularity

of ccTLDs can be attributed to five causes:

1. ccTLDs are being registered by companies that already own the some of the TLD extensions, as a means to protect their intellectual property worldwide;

2. companies need ccTLDs to be listed on country-specific search engines;

3. more countries are adopting ICANN’s Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP);

4. companies are notifyng citizens of that they are doing buisness in their country as well;

5. unnatural claims i.e. manipulations with the claims that some of these are very important domains for doing a domainer business; moreover manipulations with the extenisions.

A ccTLDs are top level domains containing a two letters abbreviation as defined by ISO 3166-1 (Codes for the Representation of Names of Countries and Their Subdivisions). As of November 1999 there were 244 country code top level domains (ccTLDs) registered.

ccTLDs are often contrasted to a generic top level domains (gTLDs). ccTLDs often have more restrictive registration requirements including regional requirements whereas gTLDs tend to be open to all registrants around the world.

The IANA (currently contracted to ICANN) is responsible for determining an appropriate trustee for each ccTLD. Administration and control is then delegated to that entity, which is responsible for the policies and operation of the domain; the current delegation can be determined from IANA's list of ccTLDs. Individual ccTLDs may thus have varying requirements and fees for registering subdomains.

There may be a special requirements regarding the domain registrations for ccTLDs (for instance, citizenship, registered company in that country or other equally meaningful conditions). We can see the difference between required conditions for registration of a domains-domain names in various countries in this three categories:

1. Unrestricted – No local presence is required. Anyone, from anywhere, may register as many domain names as are available.

There are 96 unrestricted countries as in the gTLDs. They, however, are considered “high-risk” for trademark holders, and thus, are highest priorities for preemptive registration.

2. Semi-restricted – 99 countries require mild local address presence required, such as local postal address or administrative contact.

3. Restricted – ccTLDs, in general, require stringent local presence requirements, such as proof of trademark, corporation, etc. Typically, only one name is allowed per registrant, which should match the same name of the registrant.

In an effort to compete with the gTLDs a number of countries are relaxing registration requirements. For instance, France, in May 2004, AFNIC (the registry in charge of .fr) dropped the residency requirements.

TLDs – Top Level Domains

TLDsTop Level Domains

As already stated, the right-most label in a domain name is referred to as its ''top-level domain'' (TLD). The DomaineMaster is the second level domain while the .com is the Top Level Domain. Second level domain names are what you register by or on behalf of registrants (or name holders) in a Top Level Domain registry.

Each TLD group includes and provides the same number of domains and the same second-level domain names (such as "DomaineMaster" in www.DomaineMaster.com is same with the imaginary www.domainemaster.us, domainemaster.ae, domainemaster.th ...etc), understandably with different suffixes at the end.

Most TLDs with three or more characters are referred to as "generic" TLDs, or "gTLDs". They can be subdivided into two types, "sponsored" TLDs (sTLDs) and "unsponsored TLDs (uTLDs), which i will describe more detailed in some of my next posts.

The other type of TLD is the ''country code top level domain''(ccTLD) which is assigned to all countries and their dependencies. Every TLD registry - generic or country code - has its own prices, policies, and procedures that registrants(domain name buyers-holders) in that certain registry are subject to.

What these trademarks have what general domains don't have ?(part 2)

What these trademarks have what general domains don't have ?(part 2)

That isn't that easy, but in the same time nor that hard to decipher. What these trademarks companies have is a very distinguishable Name, a Brand Name.

These trademarks - brand name domains have a reputation (mostly because of their professionalism, which is already incorporated as company rule no.1. and they are enforcing it rightly), so these domains have a wide areas for expanding their products/services solely through a name.

As competition to trademarks, general domain names in this sense are losing their general ability i.e. we as internet users in majority are visiting trademark websites and not general domain names when we are searching, looking for a specific products. Moreover, when searching for a specific products/services, generally we would go directly to that trademark website.

There is also evident a language/linguistic issue in the Internet – www world. This issue had plumped when ccTLDs came into living because these domain extensions had gave to all of the nations what belongs to them – their national language webspace. So this was a very rightly undertaking. I'm personally very pleased with that, people are just more happier because of that came into realization and reification.

In marketing, promotial, e-commerce(commerce), economic, industry sense this linguistic barriers momentarily can be resolved through translations to every national's language.

General domain names and trademarks are perceieving national extensions as a view of business expanding methods, although this way we are pulling many legal and formal questions e.g. trying to expand our business with the general domain names which are in the same hand the general terms-general domain names, over the borders is very hard because of the norms and rules which are binding us in particulary State or Country.
Moreover, it wouldn't be odd that these have already been taken. As Trademarks concerns, these would have an easier job, regarding claiming the domain names, but it's naturally that every country take care about the National interests.

From nationality aspect, due to the bare development; we differ two kind of a domain extensions or sufixes:

1. TLDs
2. ccTLDs

1. The right-most label in a domain name is referred to as its "top-level domain" (TLD).
Each TLD includes many different second-level domains (such as "DomaineMaster" in "www.DomaineMaster.com".
Most TLDs with three or more characters are referred to as "generic" TLDs, or "gTLDs". They can be subdivided into two types, "sponsored" TLDs (sTLDs) and "unsponsored TLDs (uTLDs), which i will describe more detailed in some of my next articles.

2. Country Code Top level domains are reffered to as TLDs with two letters (such as .de, .ec, .uk, .mx, .cn and .jp...etc.) have been established for over 240 countries and external territories and are referred to as "country-code" TLDs or "ccTLDs". They are delegated to designated managers, who operate the ccTLDs according to local policies that are adapted to best meet the economic, cultural, linguistic, and legal circumstances of the country or territory involved, so these are let's say in some sense country individual domains.

Here bellow you can see a list of some of the TLDs and ccTLDs:

General domain names vs Trademark domain names on TLDs and ccTLDs(part 1)

General domain names vs Trademark domain names on TLDs and ccTLDs(part 1)

...In most cases it's the best to take the same name which we are using for our whole business,

but in a case where we have some specific product/s or some service/s, logically and naturally, in that case/s we can name the domain equally as the product/service name.

Also, we could have five different products each on separately domain names, even better on separately websites, combined into one website. Various combinations of that.

There are many solutions, we just need to pick a right choice,

so read carefully....

Not confusing our customers, guests etc. it would be cleverly to choose something appropriate, soundly and easy to remember.

If we have an appropriate and a soundly domain name that's a half way of work to make it noticeable and to make a powerful impression to others, of course there are many other micro-conditions for making a domain more memorizeable like on example; your business professionalism which very significantly reflects on memorizing domains, services you provide; traditional services(combined with professionalism of course) and specific-special services - discounts, rebates, actions, website content which you are representing on your domain-website(would need to be intelligently adapted and adjusted), quality of services and products would need to be high etc.

Logically, it's easier to remember the domain name which is correlated with your specific product or service. In general, exactly this is the reason why general names like on example; shoes, batteries, golf, belief, business, computers... have better search results and are much more visited than any other sites.

So, general domain names are the domains whose names are targeted first if we are looking for general stuff(„names“), naturally, lets say...battery(batteries), cars, food, computers, laptops, music, flowers and so on. So in this sense it is all right to be an owner of one of this general domain names, especially if we are speaking from the national aspect or better to say from national language or linguistic aspects J

In other hand, there is a term called a Trademark. We could enumerate some world known trademarks from our mind...of course there are many of them from all over the world....

Continuing in the article part 2...

Me and Domains

Me and Domains

Me, what about me and the DomaineMaster.com ...I was desperately wanted to have a Domain Name as domainmaster or similar, so i chose www.DomaineMaster.com.

I think that it even better sounds. It's easier for pronounciation, too. I'm feeling great about it, although i admitt the first word 'Domaine' originate from French language, but i didn't planned this, it just happened. I think that this is one of the best choices i could have done !

I wanted to have something which sounds just like 'domain', and when reading domaine, it's even better. The thing is that i had knew the purpose of my enterprise before i was going into the shopping and the real purpose was to show all of You Ladies and Gentlemen, Gals and Guys how quick and smart i can be
J No, of course, not because of that ... the real purpose was to help and teach about choosing the right Domain Name for anyone because most of people are very confused when that question comes into. So this site derived and arised as a helping tool for all of You there who need any kind of Domain Name instructions, guides, experiences and/or testimonials

I find myself eligible to talk and write about it since i'm dealing with it for year so far. Moreover, this business sector has attracted me like nothing similar before, at first sight i fell in love into Domaines.
